The mineral Magnesium is a super power. Plain and simple.
But very few get enough of it and even fewer view it as a peak performance mineral, like I do, which is really what it is.
I want to give you an important overview of Magnesium here and then I want to share with you my go-to Magnesium protocol and a peek at the one-and-only Magnesium supplement I use today after many years of researching them all and trying most of them.
But before we dive into Magnesium, I want to mention something very important about Vitamin D…
Vitamin D is the Master vitamin. Magnesium is the Master mineral. Interestingly, Magnesium enhances the bio-availability and activation of Vitamin D in the body.
Activation of Vitamin D: Vitamin D requires two hydroxylation steps to become active in the body. Magnesium acts as a cofactor for the enzymes involved in these processes:
In the liver, vitamin D is converted to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D).
In the kidneys, 25(OH)D is further converted to the active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol).
Support for Calcium Metabolism: Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption, and Magnesium helps regulate parathyroid hormone (PTH), which is involved in maintaining calcium and vitamin D balance.
Preventing Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms: Low Magnesium levels can lead to ineffective vitamin D metabolism, potentially causing symptoms even when vitamin D levels seem adequate.
So, yes…
More Magnesium means more Vitamin D is working in the body.
Vitamin D is powerhouse. Essential for maintaining strong bones and overall health, as it helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are critical for bone formation and strength. It supports the immune system, enhancing the body’s ability to fight infections and reduce inflammation.
It also plays a key role in regulating mood and may help prevent depression, while also promoting muscle function and cardiovascular health. Adequate levels of vitamin D have been linked to a lower risk of chronic diseases such as osteoporosis, diabetes, and certain cancers. Since it’s challenging to obtain sufficient vitamin D through diet alone, sunlight exposure and supplementation are necessary to maintain optimal levels.
But Magnesium amps it up even more!
And even for Coronaviruses (Covid-19, flu, colds, etc), vitamin D is an incredibly powerful immune system booster, which few are aware of. Although this important little tidbit was censored and removed from the Internet at the start of the Covid-19 outbreak and well into 2021…
The early data showed it was working too good at suppressing viral load!
Wouldn’t want the general population to connect those dots or they may not be scared enough of the coronavirus and then they may not want to be our experiment for the new mRNA therapeutics!
“Studies have indicated that individuals with higher levels of vitamin D tend to experience less severe outcomes when infected with COVID-19. For instance, research from Israel's initial COVID-19 waves found that patients deficient in vitamin D were 14 times more likely to develop severe or critical cases compared to those with sufficient levels. Additionally, the mortality rate for vitamin D-deficient patients was 25.6%, significantly higher than the 2.3% observed in patients with adequate vitamin D levels.”

Vitamin D was THE cornerstone of the supplementation program my Functional Medicine team and I put together at the start of the pandemic. I jumped from about 5,000 IUs per day to 10,000 - 15,000 + IUs per day. I’m still 10,000+ IUs per day to this day and I routinely have my vitamin D blood levels checked.
You can, and should, have your Vitamin D levels checked through a metabolic blood panel. Your Vitamin D number is a major marker to know and to be optimizing for all the benefits mentioned above. You can only get your vitamin D levels from a blood test. I have mine tested three times per year along with dozens of other hormone and nutritional markers along with it.
This is a critical point. Only your blood work tells the real story of what's going on inside you.
Magnesium: More Powerful Than We Thought?
Magnesium is a vital mineral involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, including those related to bone health, neuronal connections, heart rhythm, and blood pressure regulation. Despite its importance, many Americans do NOT consume sufficient magnesium through their diets. Not even close.
Adequate Magnesium intake has been linked to improved cognitive function, enhanced DNA repair, and a significant reduction in stroke risk.
This makes it a super power.
Maintaining adequate Magnesium levels is crucial for preventing age-related diseases and promoting overall well-being. As we age, the body's ability to absorb magnesium decreases, potentially leading to deficiencies. Such deficiencies are linked to oxidative stress, inflammation, and other aging-related challenges. Magnesium supports DNA repair, blood sugar metabolism, and mitochondrial function, all crucial for healthy aging.
To ensure optimal health, it's critical to include Magnesium-rich foods in your diet, such as leafy green vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. But that won’t be enough of you want to reap the peak-performance and longevity benefits mentioned here.
In most cases, supplementation is necessary to meet the recommended daily intake. Its almost impossible today to get enough Magnesium from our diets. Especially in America, where our food is mostly poisoned with unnecessary preservatives and our soils are torched with chemicals that deplete it’s nutritional content and, literally, strip much of the vitamins and minerals out of the crops.
A Magnesium Breakthrough…
In the ever-expanding world of health and wellness, choosing the right supplement can feel overwhelming. Among the myriad of options available, Magnesium consistently stands out as a powerhouse mineral essential for overall well-being.
The most complete Magnesium supplement there is the only one I know of with ALL “7 forms” of Magnesium in one, and the one and only source of Magnesium that my wife and I consume every night — its also a sleeping powerhouse! more on that in a moment — is called Magnesium Breakthrough.
Below, we’ll delve into the 7 key benefits and why it deserves to be at the cornerstone of your supplementation program for peak performance and longevity, like it is my mine…
1. Enhanced Stress Management
Stress is an unavoidable part of modern life, but chronic stress can wreak havoc on both physical and mental health. Magnesium plays a crucial role in regulating the body’s stress response by balancing cortisol levels and supporting the adrenal glands. This protocol provides a potent blend of “7 magnesium forms” that target stress reduction, helping to promote relaxation and alleviate anxiety.
2. Improved Sleep Quality
This is the BIG one. Magnesium is often referred to as nature’s tranquilizer. It aids in the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles. The diverse magnesium forms in this protocol work synergistically to calm the nervous system, allowing for deeper, more restorative sleep.
3. Boosted Energy Levels
Magnesium is essential for energy production at the cellular level. It activates adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the molecule responsible for providing energy to your cells. By replenishing Magnesium stores, you will combat fatigue and enhance physical performance, helping you feel more energized throughout the day.
4. Better Heart Health
The heart, as a muscle, relies heavily on Magnesium for proper function. Magnesium supports healthy blood pressure, regulates heartbeat, and maintains the elasticity of blood vessels. Studies have shown that adequate Magnesium intake can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular issues. No protocols I’ve found have adequate amounts of ALL “7 forms” of Magnesium required for these heart health benefits!
5. Support for Bone and Muscle Health
Magnesium is a critical player in maintaining bone density and muscle function. It works alongside calcium and vitamin D to strengthen bones and prevent conditions like osteoporosis. For athletes and fitness enthusiasts, this protocol reduces muscle cramps, supports recovery, and improves overall muscle performance.
6. Enhanced Cognitive Function
Magnesium is essential for brain health, influencing memory, focus, and learning. It helps regulate neurotransmitters and supports the brain's ability to adapt and respond to new challenges. With the proper balance of these “7 forms” of Magnesium, you may notice sharper mental clarity and reduced brain fog.
7. Holistic Health Benefits
Magnesium’s benefits extend to hormonal balance, improved digestion, and even skin health. The unique formulation, which combines multiple Magnesium types, ensures comprehensive support for the entire body. This all-in-one supplement eliminates the need for multiple products, making it a convenient addition to any wellness regimen.
Not All Magnesium Supplements Are Created Equal…
Many products on the market contain only one or two forms of Magnesium, limiting their effectiveness. Magnesium Breakthrough is unique because it includes seven different types of Magnesium, each carefully selected to target specific areas of the body. This holistic approach ensures maximum absorption and bioavailability, providing superior results.
As you can see, Magnesium is an indispensable mineral for optimal health, and Magnesium Breakthrough sets the gold standard in supplementation. Moreover, it is free from artificial additives, fillers, and preservatives, which I look at first, making it a clean and safe choice.
Like I said at the beginning, Magnesium is a super power. And coupled with Vitamin D, its the most powerful 1-2 punch there is!
Until next time…
