The Vegetable Oil Fallacy
A Concerning Link Between Vegetable Oils, Obesity And Heart Disease...
Vegetable oils are one of the most toxic substances in our food supply…
That may come as a surprise since there are vegetables in vegetable oils, right?
Wrong.
Believe it or not, there are no vegetables in vegetable oils…
This is blatant distortion of language by the manufacturers of these oils to mislead the public into thinking they are buying healthy oils. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s false advertising. And it’s fraud.
Only in America can you get away with something like this…
The vegetable oil industry is just another “Industrial Complex” on a long list of Industrial Complexes surrounding our public health system that puts profits before people.
These so-called vegetable oils come from extracting oil from seeds and fruits including soybeans, sunflowers, grape seed and palms. Vegetable oils often contain contaminants like pesticides, trace metals, mineral oil, dioxins, aflatoxins and more from the way crops are grown, transported and processed. These are cheap, highly-refined oils that wreak havoc on the body…
A more accurate name for vegetable oil would be seed oil or plant oil. Up to 85% of what we know as vegetable oil in the United States is actually made from soybeans. The other 15% is mostly a blend of soy and other plant-based oils such as corn, peanut, sunflower, canola, palm or cottonseed.
Cheap, dirty foods. Absolutely no vegetables.
Vegetable oils, high in polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), can disrupt your metabolic rate, increase gut permeability and induce gut dysbiosis and inflammation. High PUFA intake also shifts your gut microbiome, which can affect your overall health. High PUFA intake can also have a detrimental impact on your thyroid and metabolic health by affecting cells’ use of thyroid hormones. ~ Dr. Joseph Mercola
But most concerning to me, is the link I found between vegetable oils and obesity and vegetable oils and heart disease…
Let’s Start With Obesity…
Since the 1960’s when the vegetable oil “industry” began, obesity rates have gone straight up, as you can see from the chart below.
Over-consuming vegetable oils, specifically seed oils, which contain unprecedented amounts of the omega-6 fat linoleic acid, can cause obesity. There is no tribe, population, or nation that has started consuming vegetable oils and not seen obesity rates climb. Vegetable oil breaks down into an obesogenic toxin (4-Hydroxynonenal), which appears to be a cause of obesity.
But look at this chart of the US. It’s a straight line up. Not a coincidence. And no wonder why we lead the world in chronic disease! Vegetable oils are a huge contributor here. No question.
Cooking with vegetable oils creates oxidation in the body at an alarming rate. Think of oxidation like metal turning to rust or like an apple turning brown. This is what occurs in the body when toxic vegetable oils are cooked at high heat and then you ingest them.
Vegetable oils are, literally, all around us, in everything today, especially in restaurants where they cook in large quantities to save money. I always ask whenever I can in restaurants, which types of oils are used in the kitchen. It’s usually never a good answer. But I do request olive oil or butter for my food to be cooked in whenever possible.
You don’t ask, you don’t get! ;)
The smart, health-oriented restaurants who put people before profits would’t even consider using Canola or Corn oils to cook. Unfortunately, that’s a small minority.
Heart Disease…
Vegetable oils are not heart-healthy. Aside of olive oil, which isn’t really in this category and is heart-healthy. More on that below.
“The vegetable oil industry jumped on the low saturated fat bandwagon in the 1960s, donating vast sums of money to the American Heart Association. It's one of the bitterest ironies of the modern era that the dietary guidelines of the American Heart Association for low fat and high carbohydrates helped create the very epidemic of heart disease they were attempting to prevent.”
~ Brant Cortright, PH.D. Author of The Neurogenesis Diet & Lifestyle
In other words, the vegetable oil industry captured (paid off) the American Heart Association to pitch their toxic oils as “heart healthy.” And the American Heart Association took the pay off and had no problem running with this false narrative.
And shockingly, they still do.
Comforting, right?
This is what is currently posted on the American Heart Association’s website under “healthy oils”:
Here are some common cooking oils that contain more of the “better-for-you” fats and less saturated fat:
Canola
Corn
Olive
Peanut
Safflower
Soybean
Sunflower
These public health agencies always miss the forest for the trees. They’re so focused on the “less saturated fat” thing, they completely miss the heavy toxicity of the oils which FAR offset the the fact that they may have “less saturated fat.” Who cares if the food is toxic? The majority of these public agencies are consistently a decade or more behind the science. They are an embarrassment at this point.
But the kicker…
#1 on their list: Canola oil
Canola oil is THE most toxic of all, by far. There isn’t even a close second…
Canola oil is mostly genetically modified (GMO) to be resistant to the herbicide glyphosate. Glyphosate is a known carcinogen. Most canola is chemically extracted using a solvent called hexane, and heat is often applied which can affect the stability of the oil’s molecules, turn it rancid, destroy the omega-3s in it, and can even create dangerous trans fats. Canola oil is linked to inflammation, heart disease, impaired memory function, and stroke.
GMO foods are a nightmare. We’ll devote a future issue of The Renegade Report to GMO foods. Many countries have actually banned GMO foods — but not America! In fact, the GMO industry is yet another… drum roll please… Industrial Complex.
A 2018 study on the effects of different cooking oils and metabolic syndrome found that overweight or obese participants who used canola oil for cooking had more chances to have metabolic syndrome than those who hardly or never used it.
~ The Journal Nutrients
Let me say this again…
Canola oil is #1 on the American Heart Association’s list of “healthy oils.”
Right up there with Canola oil is Corn oil. Check out the “Heart Healthy” label below in red…
This is a blatant lie right on the label. Corn oil is rancid. It’s not even suitable for your automobile. I kid you not.
Stunning fraud. False advertising.
My daughter’s science class at school showed a video of an airplane running on 100% vegetable oils…
By now I hope you’re beginning to see the danger of captured industries and conflicts of interest — big corporations paying off the industries they took an oath to regulate, to not only not regulate them, but to promote them. It’s literally destroying America.
The Healthiest, Most Powerful Oils In The World…
There are two, and they are super foods:
Olive oil and Coconut oil.
Oilve oil is technically categorized as a vegetable oil in some circles, but carries none of the toxicity mentioned above.
Olive oil is liquid gold. It’s high in polyphenols and is anti-inflammatory. It also improves gut health, enhances brain function and can lower cholesterol. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds in olive oil can help protect against plaque buildup in the arteries (atherosclerosis).
A 2021 study found that US adults who consumed greater than 7 grams of a ½ tablespoon of olive oil per day had 14% lower risk of heart disease compared to people who didn’t eat olive oil. ~ The Journal of the American College of Cardiology
Unlike vegetable oils that are high in Omega-6 polyunsaturated fats, olive oil is high in potent Omega-3 unsaturated fats (good fat).
A 2015 review of 30 studies found that daily consumption of olive oil in doses ranging from 1 mg to 50 mg significantly decreased levels of the inflammatory markers C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 compared to control treatments.
~ Nutrients
But olive oil is #3 on the American Heart Association’s “healthy oils” list behind canola and corn oil?
Canola and corn could not be two worse foods for the body. It’s mind-blowing that anyone could put olive oil behind canola and corn oil.
Well, actually not really when the canola and corn industry are paying for the top two spots. Minor detail.
A 2022 study found that people with mild cognitive impairment who were supplemented with 30 mL of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) per day for 6 months experienced significant improvements in behavioral and clinical dementia rating (CDR) scores. The researchers also discovered that the EVOO helped enhance the function of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a barrier between the blood vessels of the brain and the brain tissue that prevents harmful substances from reaching the brain. ~ Nutrients
Last thing I’ll say, “source” is everything when it comes purchasing olive oil. All oils can become rancid when they are not sourced well, or if pesticides are used on the crops, or if they sit around too long on grocery store shelves. See the P.S. below for my go-to olive oil source, avoiding the grocery store.
Lets talk coconut oil…
Coconut oil has is a powerhouse like olive oil. Coconut oil is a rich source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), a type of saturated fat.
Scientists are studying medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), including those found in coconut oil, for their potential health benefits. For instance, a 2023 found that MCT supplementation, when used during a low-calorie ketogenic diet, significantly decreased body weight, BMI, and waist circumference.
~ Journal of Translational Medicine
A 2020 review highlights the role of medium chain triglycerides (such as MCT oil) in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease because of their neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research shows that lauric acid found in coconut oil may have anticancer actions by triggering anti-proliferation effects.
Coconut oils is also an immune system booster…
Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has been shown to reduce candida, fight bacteria and create a hostile environment for viruses. Many diseases today are caused by the overgrowth of bad bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites in the body. A 2020 review indicates that it has antimicrobial activity and helps activate the anti-inflammatory nature of the immune response in the human body.
~ National Library of Medicine
Coconut oil also supports memory and brain function. Many don’t realize that the brain runs primarily on fats — good fats from quality oils, like olive oil and coconut oil.
In a 2004 study researchers found that the MCFAs in coconut oil improved the memory problems in older subjects. Across all the patients there was a marked improvement in their recall ability after taking this fatty acid. The MCFAs are absorbed easily in the body and can be accessed in the brain without the use of insulin. Thus, they are able to fuel brain cells more efficiently. ~ Journal of Neurobiology of Aging
Coconut oil is also phenomenal to cook with.
But.. Coconut oil didn’t even make the American Heart Association’s “healthy oils” list!
Fast Forward To The Year 2024…
Heart disease is now the leading cause of death in the United States…
Obesity is now the largest health crisis of our time…
Need I say more?
Stay vigilant my friends. The war is real…
P.S. I have my olive oils sourced worldwide when the olive crops are at their best, tested for chemicals, and shipped to me a quarterly in bulk. They never make it to the grocery store to sit on shelves for months. No oils do well sitting on grocery store shelves for long periods of time. I use a company called Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Club. They’re considered the Olive Oil Hunters. Their olive oils are so clean and fresh, I take tablespoons of it daily! You can learn about this phenomenal company HERE
